We pledge to whenever possible:
Purchase from locally owned businesses,
carry organic, fair-trade, sustainable products,
recycle, reduce, and reuse,
offer healthy alternatives,
and be as green as possible.
So what's that mean??? Let's break it down....
All of our coffee is Shade Grown, Fair Trade, and Organic. We buy it from a roaster in Minneapolis Upper Midwest Gourmet. They are an awesomely green company.
All of our cold to-go cups and straws are made from corn oil instead of plastic. That means they have much smaller carbon footprint and they are compostable.
All of our paper products; bathroom tissue, paper towels, napkins, etc. are 100% recycled.
We recycle everything possible. We even have a recycle bin for customers to use. Bright and blue right next to the regular trash bin.

We compost!
We have a Nature Mill indoor composter. This thing is SOOOO COOL! You put your compostibles in the top and you get dirt in the bottom. Check out the site. It's almost too cool to be true.
It can process up to 120 pounds of food waste per month.
We plan on giving the compost away to our customers and asking them to donate small amounts of Green to help us become more Green. |
We are buying all of our vegetables this summer from The Farm on St. Mathias. These guys are awesome. Check them out.
We recognize that a vegetarian and vegan diet have a positive impact on the ecology of the planet and we try to provide as many vegetarian and vegan options as possible. Our soup base is always made vegetarian, so if you order the Mushroom Wild Rice soup, you don't have to worry. There is no chicken stock in there.
We buy as much organic foods as we can. Whenever possible the fruits and vegetables we buy are organic.
We carry organic and fair trade wine as well as some organic beer.
We have plans to build a small greenhouse on the roof. This tree may not bear fruit this year, but once we get it done, the greenhouse will provide many of our fresh herbs and vegetables.
I think that's it... and it's not enough. I know there are areas we can be greener, but we need your help to open our eyes to them. So if you have a suggestion on how we can reduce our impact on this earth, please drop us a line and let us know.
